I sincerely enjoyed reading this funny, poignant, well written, honest book. I am thankful to Jesse for having the courage to write it then share his story with others.

I truly enjoyed reading this book. The only “experience” I have had with Asperger’s is from the character on Boston Legal. Reading about Jesse’s life from his point of view was an eye-opener. I have a better understanding of the AS variations in the way that the brain processes empathy, social cues, and other aspects of living that most of us take for granted. I also had moments where I laughed aloud at the creative humor in this book. It is truly worth reading. I will be sharing it with my patients, friends and relatives.

Jesse has unmistakable writing talent, but to write about yourself, and about yourself in terms of “disability”, with such clarity, honesty, and humor is a rare gift. No one should be defined by just one aspect of self, and we all need a chance to be known for all of who we are. That takes time, and often people are much too impatient with themselves and others. Personally, I think we’re all on the “weird” side!

Jesse don’t ever stop writing, but, given that writing is usually a solitary endeavor (not the best place for someone with Asperger’s to remain), find time to be out in the world where everyone can better get to know all of you.Atypical: Life with Asperger’s in 20 1/3 Chapters

From the moment I began to read Atypical: Life with Asperger’s in 20 1/3 Chapters, I was pulled in by the imagery of Jesse A. Saperstein. His descriptions of his thoughts as well as his actions seen through the Asperger’s “atypical lense” brought me much insight into the life of a very colorful, vibrant, and talented young man. I have a relative with a very serious form of Asperger’s, and now I can understand some of the things that happened when we were younger. I’m going to share this book with as many people as possible. One of the best biographies I have read in my life, and certainly the most memorable.
